Open-back headphones
Open-back headphones let air and sound pass through the earcups. Nothing is trapped behind the driver, so music sounds wider and more natural, closer to a pair of good loudspeakers than to sound inside your head.
The trade-off is privacy: people nearby hear what you play, and outside noise comes in. Choose open-back for a quiet room at home or in the studio, and closed-back or in-ear for travel and shared spaces.
